“I Will Praise You in the Storm”

| April 30, 2011

The stories of heartbreak and loss from the devastating storms in Alabama continue to pour in. Our church has many friends in one of the hardest hit areas outside of Birmingham. A number of the families in that community have lost all their possessions – even their businesses. Some have also lost loved ones.

Donations for the Crawford Family Who Lost Their Home in Tornado

| April 28, 2011

Dear Readers, we need you to pray for Kelly Crawford of Generation Cedar who is also an LAF contributor. We have heard that they just lost their home, and their parents home, due to a terrible tornado passing through. Apparently they had taken refuge in their basement with a few families. Praise God that [...]

Please Pray…

| April 28, 2011

Please pray for LAF writer, Kelly Crawford, and author of Generation Cedar. She and her family lost their home, outbuildings, and vehicles in yesterday’s tornadoes. They (and 4 neighboring families) sought refuge in the Crawford’s basement. One of these families – a family with 13 children -  lost their husband/father in the storm. Kelly’s husband [...]

Lysistrata’s Rule For World Domination

| April 20, 2011

[Editor's note: Kamilla Ludwig has written a fantastic commentary on the current debate over Planned Parenthood funding (and modern sexual mores). It's not for young readers, but it is definitely something that parents should be talking about with their children. Sexuality is a beautiful gift to be treasured and cherished--not abused and misused.] Click “more” [...]

Abstinence can work

| April 20, 2011

It is refreshing to read common-sense editorials like this one, which highlight what we’ve said for years: self-control is completely possible and best for physical, mental, and emotional health over the long-term. Teenagers should not be treated like animals unable to control themselves, but that’s precisely how they are portrayed and taught in modern sex-ed [...]

Planned Parenthood and the Soviet Model

| April 20, 2011

“[W]e could well take example from Russia,” advised Planned Parenthood founder, Margaret Sanger, “where birth control instruction is part of the regular welfare service of the government.” My, how far modern liberal Democrats have progressed. Sanger, Planned Parenthood matron and racial-eugenicist, who ran a “Negro Project,” who spoke to a KKK rally in 1926, who [...]

Part 2 of Beaches, Bikinis, and…Bibles?

| April 13, 2011

If you haven’t read Part 1, please click HERE first! Part 2 of Beaches, Bikinis, and…Bibles? By Carmon Friedrich Last night, I took my daughter to a movie that has been heavily promoted by Christian outlets (you can read a positive review by Focus on the Family’s PluggedIn Online here, along with some of their [...]

Soul Surfer: Beaches, Bikinis, and…Bibles?

| April 13, 2011

The following review refers only to the Hollywood movie, Soul Surfer. It is not a critique of the real Bethany Hamilton, her testimony, or her ministry to others. Soul Surfer, the popular new movie produced by secular group TriStar Pictures, is all the rage this week. Heavily marketed to Christians, the film tells the dramatic [...]

Middle of the Road

| April 13, 2011

Dennis Rainey from Family Life has posted a short, thought-provoking (and sobering) piece: There is no reason why so many Christian marriages should end in divorce. There is no reason why people who call themselves evangelicals should account for one in every six abortions performed in America. There is no reason why more than half [...]

Partial truths from family research

| April 13, 2011

Respected US research organisation Child Trends has published a study showing that children tend to do well when their parents have a happy relationship — and vice-versa. So far, so good. In more detail the researchers claim: Almost without exception, the lowest levels of positive child outcomes are found among children in families where the [...]

Wistful thoughts on a royal wedding

| April 13, 2011

Joanna Bogle has a very thoughtful piece over on Mercatornet: There is something slightly sad about this Royal Wedding, something a bit wistful, that gives the thing a complicated feel. The trimmings are all there: the commemorative mugs and plates, the bunting, the red-white-and-blue hats, the feature articles about what the wedding dress will be [...]

The State of Home Education

| April 2, 2011

The homeschool community in America has been in an uproar for the past week. Online message boards, Facebook communities, and Twitter accounts have been frantically exchanging information and conversation on recent events.  Questions have arisen. Accusations have flown. Statements have been made.  Stands have been taken. There is much to be concerned about. We are [...]

Expectations and broken people

| April 1, 2011

Amy over at Humble Musings has had marvelous posts over the years. This one she put up yesterday is just an example of her straightforward, biblical thinking and loving application of God’s Word. Beautiful. Ah, realistic expectations. Pesky little things. When I floated an idea to my husband yesterday, which may or may not have [...]
