Through the Week in Feminine Dress!

The Poston ladies have graciously shared wonderful photos of their activities throughout one week. Mother and daughters are beautiful examples of modest femininity -- aren't their countenances such a joy to behold? Writes Miss Stephanie Poston: "Four months ago, we didn't look at all like what you see in the pictures. We have been Christians and walking with the Lord for years now, but we had never heard of Biblical womanhood and manhood! We all strongly believed in women being keepers-at-home and tried to be chaste and modest, but we always thought that modesty meant not wearing low necklines or short shorts. And we thought "feminine" meant wearing a nice pair of jeans and a pink sweater. Our minds were infiltrated with feministic thoughts, which we didn't even know were feminist at the time! It was just the way we had been taught to think all our lives. And then, four months ago, I was reading an old YLCF (Young Ladies Christian Fellowship) journal online. I was re-reading an article you had written, when I noticed at the bottom, in very small print, the website address for Ladies Against Feminism. I had never noticed this before, so I clicked on it, and that was the moment my family's world changed! God used your website and all the articles on it, to speak to our hearts about the lies of feminism, about true femininity and modesty, and about Biblical womanhood. Our hearts were convicted and changed! We have been learning and enjoying the God given differences between man and woman ever since! We pray daily for God to show us any left over feministic ways and for Him to work and make our hearts truly feminine and pleasing to Him. We have been so blessed and freed by the Lord in wearing only dresses and skirts! It is such joy to be a woman, a real woman, in Christ and to embrace Biblical womanhood!" Praise God!

These are pictures of my mother Judith, my sister Shelley, and I going about our weekly duties. It is very difficult to show everything we do, but we tried to get pictures of both small and big tasks. We enjoy wearing dresses and skirts daily because of the modesty, comfort (we think they are much more comfortable than pants!) and because we think women should look like women to glorify God! ~ Stephanie Poston

Day One: Sunday

I only took one picture today, right before we left for church.

Day Two: Monday

In the morning, I had a babysitting job with a family down the street. I enjoy babysitting, because it is a great way to learn about caring for children! In the afternoon, my mom made cookies; she loves to bake! My sister spent the time writing letters to some of her friends. I pinned up a new spring skirt I made for my mom (I'm the family seamstress) and sewed. Later on, my sister and I had to run an errand to the Christian library - my books were due! Isn't the tree in front of the library gorgeous? All the trees and flowers are blooming here in NC!

Day Three: Tuesday

On Tuesday my mom went to the grocery store (I didn't get a picture of that!), Shelley and my mom baked banana bread in the afternoon, and I made some last-minute adjustments to a Common Sense dress pattern before sewing it. My mom spent some quiet time playing her guitar. In the evening we had family devotions. My dad reads a few chapters from the Bible aloud every night. We're in II Chronicles right now. After that he reads to us from a favorite or new book; at the moment we're reading The Sinking of the Titanic and Great Sea Disasters from Vision Forum. He likes adventure stories, so we thought he would enjoy this one, since usually we insist on hearing books like Little Women or Anne of Green Gables!

Day Four: Wednesday

In the morning my mom does her devotion. Every Wednesday I volunteer at a Christian Crisis Pregnancy Center. While the center has Spanish Bible study for the Latino mothers, I watch and play with the children. I also help in the clothing ministry. My sister spent her time writing. She is working on an article for the website she is starting. In the afternoon, my mom does the laundry, and I help. She usually ends up doing laundry every third day. In the evening I took pictures of my mom cooking dinner and my sister chopping vegetables. While my mom and sister work on dinner, I work on the sweater I’m trying to knit.

Day Five: Thursday

Thursday was a very quiet day. My mom, sister, and dad traveled to Greenville, SC to visit one of my sister’s friends. We try to keep up feminine dress even while traveling! The best thing to do is choose a dress or skirt that doesn’t wrinkle easily. I spent the day sewing - I finally got around to working on my Common Sense dress. I only finished half the dress though - I ran out of time once the bodice was done. Tuesdays and Thursdays I teach English and reading to an adult Hispanic. Often I get so caught up in sewing (I love it!!) that I lose track of time! Thankfully I wasn’t late to the lesson, though. :)

Day Six: Friday

Cleaning Day!! On Fridays we spend most of the day cleaning. We vacuum, dust, and sweep the whole house and clean all the bathrooms. Shelley and I are wearing our aprons that we made from Mrs. Chancey’s Edwardian Apron Pattern. We love wearing them for cleaning, cooking, etc! We are still working on making my mom’s apron; it should be done pretty soon. On this day my mom and sister also cleaned out the garage, but they requested I not take a picture since it was a very dirty job!

Day Seven: Saturday

Today we rested after all our cleaning work the day before! I had a program in the morning at the library for Latino families. The library was just renovated, so the parents were invited for tours and the children were provided with a program where they sang songs, made puppets, and heard books read in English and Spanish. I was in charge of the children’s activities. In the afternoon, Shelley spent some time playing the piano. She does a great rendition of the song “My Father’s Favorite” which was played by Marianne in the movie “Sense and Sensibility.” Shelley also composes some of her own songs! My mom worked on knitting a blanket, and I helped in figuring out the directions. We’ve never used circular needles before, so it was a bit of a challenge!

Learning a New Way to Knit!

What a refreshing "visit" with the Postons! Doesn't their week inspire you? What a blessing it is when mothers and daughters work together to serve the Lord with gladness. I know my heart was blessed to see these lovely ladies working and learning throughout the week. I hope you are inspired to see how even the most mundane tasks can be made beautiful when they are done with a glowing countenance, a joyful heart and a desire to honor God even in the way we dress. We are queens! What a difference it makes when we dress like royalty--no matter what our position in life.
