LAF's Statement of Faith

We believe in one living and true God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that He has revealed Himself to be perfect in love, holiness and righteousness; that He sovereignly created all, upholds all and governs all. (Genesis 1-2; Psalm 2; Matthew 12:25-27; John 1:1-2, 10:30, 14:26, 15:26).

We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by divine inspiration and are the written Word of God, the final authority for the lives of believers in every culture and age, and our infallible rule of faith and practice. They are to be interpreted according to their context and purpose and in reverent obedience to the living Word, Jesus Christ, Who speaks through them in the power of the Holy Spirit. (Psalm 119:89; Isaiah 40:8; John 5:39-40; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12).

We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in wisdom, power and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men through His providence and His power, that He hears and answers prayers; that He has created all and promises to recreate all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Genesis 1:1; Psalm 19:1, 102:25-27; Matthew 7:11; Ephesians 1:3-6).

We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit, fully God and fully man. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life and the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah; we believe in His miracles, teaching, substitutionary atoning death, bodily ressurection, and ascension into heaven, His continual intercession for His people and His future personal, visible return to earth. We believe that Christ is seated at the right hand of God the Father, ruling as King of Kings and Lord of Lords until all His enemies are made His footstool. (Matthew 1:20-23, 5:15-18; Romans 1:4; 1 Corinthians 15:1-17; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Philippians 2:5-11; Hebrews 2:4, 4:15, 7:25, 10:12-20).

We believe the Holy Spirit came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgement, and to regenerate, sanctify and empower for ministry all who believe in Christ; we believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and is an abiding Helper, Teacher, Gift-giver and Guide. We believe that through the indwelling Holy Spirit we can experience a progressive liberation from the bondage of Satan, the world and sin (sanctification); that He acts in and through our lives with sovereign supernatural power. (John 16:7-15; Acts 1:8, 2:38-39; Romans 8:5-16; 1 Corinthians 12:7-11; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18; Galatians 3:2-5, 5:16-25).

We believe that man was created in the image of God, after his likeness, and therefore has transcendent, intrinsic worth. The whole human race fell in the fall of the first Adam. All men, apart from spiritual regeneration, are lost, darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, hardened in heart, and spiritually dead through their trespasses and sins. They cannot see nor enter the Kingdom of God until they are born again of the Holy Spirit. God regenerates His people, who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord, declaring them righteous (justification), forgiving them of their sins, adopting them as His children, filling them with the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of their future resurrection and inheritance with Christ, incorporating them into His body and empowering them for His service. We believe salvation is by grace, through faith alone in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Good works are meant to follow salvation in honor of our Savior and Lord, but they cannot earn God's merit. (Genesis 3:1-13, 16-19; John 3:16, 5:24, 6:40, Rom. 3:23-24, 4:4-5, 5:12-19, 7:14-25, 8:1-4; 2 Corinthians 5:17-18; Galatians 4:4-7; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5-7; James 1:18).

We believe in the "invisible" (universal) Church, which consists of the host of the regenerate, wherever they may be found. It is the body and bride of Christ which Christ loves and for which He has given Himself. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ commited two ordinances to the Church: baptism and communion. These ordinances are to set us apart as believers and also serve as a means of God's grace. (Matthew 16:18-19; Luke 22:14-20; Acts 2:38-41; Romans 6:3-4; 1 Corinthians 11:23-31).

We believe that all who have been baptized into Jesus Christ are thereby obligated and enabled to obey God's word and repent when they sin. Those who confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord should pursue a life of obedience and holiness. Those who persist in sin should be warned and, if merited, disciplined. (Matthew 18:15-17; 1 Corinthians 10:13; Romans 6:5-11; 1 John 3:4-10).

We believe that all of God's commands and precepts are holy, just and good and as applicable today as they were when originally given. We fully agree with all of the doctrines of submission, headship and authority given in the Scriptures. Both men and women are called to submission, though their roles are distinctive. As women, we believe that we are obligated to submit to our husbands as the Church submits to Christ, thus displaying to the world the beauty of Christ's love for His bride and the bride's loving obedience to the Groom. (Romans 7:12; I Corinthians 7; Ephesians 5:22-33).

We realize that people of other religions or beliefs may find this faith offensive or judgmental. We hope that all those who come to the site will understand that we personally do not sit in judgment or feel it is our duty to divide the "sheep from the goats." It is God's Word which judges us (it judges faithful Christians, too!), and that judgment can be painful and difficult at times.

Please understand that the articles we share, the letters we send and the messages we post are not intended to silence seekers who have sincere questions or to place ourselves on a pedestal of perfection. We are sinners, too, saved by grace alone and not through our feeble works. But God's Holy Standard is perfect and calls us constantly to repentance, belief and obedience. If you feel offended by something you read on the site, understand that those writing the articles are not doing so out of a desire to inflict pain, harshly condemn or drive away inquirers. Our desire is that the beauty of God's commands for women be made manifestly clear (even when those commands may appear restrictive or unfair). We cannot "edit" the Word of God or use it to "tickle" the ears of others. The Word speaks for itself, and we believe its commands for womanhood are challenging and lovely. At the same time, we are fallible humans and are open to correction if someone feels that we are overstepping our bounds or proclaiming things inconsistent with Scripture.

Special thanks to Gospelcom, Reformed.org and Stand to Reason for their excellent models for statements of faith.
