So, what now?

Pundits are calling us "Value-Voters." Even liberal spin-masters are having a hard time getting away from the fact that Tuesday's results were largely brought about by church-going families who turned out in record-numbers to vote down same-sex marriage and increase the Republican majority.

Now, if you've read LAF for even a short while, you know we didn't endorse President Bush or call for a straight-Republican vote. We do not believe that a "conservative" ticket in our day and age is much better than a liberal ticket. Conservatism, after all, is yesterday's liberalism--it just limps along a little more slowly. Praising it or endorsing it is not wise, because it is not heading in the right direction -- it is just heading in the wrong direction at a slower pace.

As Christians and citizens, we need to continue to pray for our nation. We need to be involved as we express our concerns about abortion, euthanasia, women in the military, same-sex unions, etc. We cannot breathe a sigh of relief and just leave everything to the Republican majority. To do so would be foolhardy.

Tim Ewing, editor of Rare Jewel Magazine, has written an excellent editorial on this very topic, and I reprint it here in its entirety. It is our prayer that LAF readers would continue to remain vigilant and on their guard, praying for this nation and living the gospel before a dying culture. May the Lord bless you as you serve Him!

"No Time to Rest"
by Tim Ewing

Here are some important stats from Election 2004:

* Election 2004 generated the largest voter turnout in our nation's history (approximately 120 million).

* President Bush received more votes than any other President in our nation's history in a single election.

* President Bush won 51 percent of the popular vote, the first president to win a popular majority (as opposed to a plurality) since his father did so in 1988.

* President Bush won by more than 3.5 million votes over Kerry.

* For the first time in 68 years, an incumbent president won re-election while his party gained seats in both the House and the Senate.

* Senate Minority leader Tom Daschle (Democrat from South Dakota) lost his re-election bid to Republican John Thune, the first incumbent loss for a Senate leader in 52 years.

* Louisiana citizens elected their first-ever Republican Senator.

* Marriage between one man and one woman is a huge winner, sweeping all 11 states where it was on the ballot Tuesday.

President Bush and the Republican Party can thank the Evangelical Christian vote that show up in a big way after dramatically underperforming in 2000. This year, those voters made all the difference.

All during the campaign, pollsters announced that the primary concerns of voters across the board were: Terrorism, Iran, the economy. Wrong: Post-election polls reveal that MORAL ISSUES were the primary concern of citizens. Hence, a new term for this block of voters has been coined: "Value-Voters."

We could surmise that a Kerry victory might have brought about the unintended benefit of spawning an even greater response of activism from Christian Patriots compared to what we've seen during the past year. Perhaps also, the Bush victory might bring about a great loss of influence; for instance, many Christians could lapse into inactivity -- a false sense of security -- as they look forward to another four years of a Bush presidency.

As we look forward to President Bush's next term and his Party's slightly larger majority in both houses of Congress, now more than ever, Christians must stay involved in government affairs. There are many reasons why citizens should be concerned about the direction of our country, even under another four years of President Bush:

1. President Bush, and the Republican-controlled Congress, are big-government proponents, having abandoned the conservative roots of their Party and the limited-government structure mandated by the U.S. Constitution and the Founding Fathers.

2. Despite President Bush's support for important moral issues like protecting marriage and ending abortion, he has continued to play politics -- exemplified by his comments last week about his support of same-sex civil unions, which is simply marriage under another name -- instead of standing firm on his espoused Christian core ideology.

3. President Bush and many Republican leaders misunderstand the nature of our country's freedom, willing to define it as licentiousness for "consenting adults" rather than responsible behavior within the guidelines of Biblical Christianity, as outlined by the Founding Fathers.

4. Four years of the Bush presidency did little to slow the onslaught against the public acknowledgement of God in America. A low-water mark for George W Bush was his silence a year ago when Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore was fired for displaying the Ten Commandments.

We the People must hold the Bush administration and the Legislative Branch accountable to the core ideology that America was founded upon: dependence on God, protection of the Family, a very limited federal government, and a secure Republic. We at Rare Jewel Magazine will help you in this endeavor.

Interestingly, this year's Constitution Party presidential candidate, Michael Peroutka, hosts his Web site using the following Web address: www.GodFamilyRepublic.com. God, Family, Republic--this is a great motto for "Value-Voters."

Should the class of 2004 fail to move American public-policy closer to its Christian roots, we Christian Patriots should not hesitate to take our votes elsewhere. Generation Joshua, which serves mostly -- but not only -- home school students and their parents, is one organization that is proactively working to help citizens raise up public leaders who will restore our nation's Christian heritage.

We must stay active, we must remain in prayer on behalf of our nation.

This is clearly no time to rest.
