Welcome to Lady Lydia's Section!

Lady Lydia speaks...

Lady Lydia is our "expert in residence" on topics ranging from home decorating to hospitality. This wonderful lady lives in Oregon, where she serves as a pastor's wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor, friend and charming hostess. Her wit and lively writing style bring to life her gracious approach to homemaking, feminine dress, meal preparation, manners and style. And as you will see from the articles in this section, Lady Lydia truly does live out her philosophy. She is a marvelous example to all of us of what can be done at home and how beautifully each task may be accomplished. Each article by Lady Lydia is complemented by original artwork and classical masters to inspire you! If you would like to drop Lady Lydia a note, click click here.

Lady Lydia's Theme: I work for a King. He has put me in charge of this home. When He comes to see how I have managed His possessions and His children, I do not want to be found wanting. I want to do my best. Everything I have is on loan to me from Him. I have room and board and a job to do, but it is all for Him. Therefore I want to dress my best and do my best in all my work. I want also to be creative, for this is a sincere attempt to glorify Him and His beautiful creation. How I manage my home is a form of worship to Him.

Letters You Will Wish You Had Written
As this life passes by us all so fast, even for the young, one of the most treasured items will be that bundle of letters tied up in a French wired ribbon, or the hat box full of old greeting cards. These little bits of information about the inside lives of family and friends will one day become a touch of history for you and your friends.

Pictures at An Exhibition
The home is a gallery full of pictures of the exhibition of that family's life. If someone were to walk through your house, what would he see, and what kind of conclusions would he reach about life? Discordant notes or a beautiful, flowing musical composition?

Plenty to Do at Home
"What is there to do at home?" If you are a new homemaker, you might receive this question from all sides. This article might be worth printing and distributing to friends and relatives who have questions about the purpose of women staying home and taking care of the business of guarding, guiding, and keeping the house.

Tea Party: A Refreshing Event
Relaxing with friends in the pleasant and beautiful ceremony of Tea is becoming the fastest-growing pasttime in the nation. Teatime has its roots in British tradition, but it is having a greater revival in the US and Canada. New tea rooms are cropping up everywhere.

Feminine Dress for Summer
Have you ever felt uneasy about the way you were dressing? Learning how to dress properly will help you to feel less self-conscious. This kind of clothing covers your privacy, so that you don't have to be concerned about whether you are too fat or too thin, tanned, tall or short.

Putting Happiness into Your Home
Do you know someone whose home is a delight to visit? Do you feel a sense of well-being and happiness the moment you enter? I'm sure it is more than perfect decor that makes it so. The home is a natural history museum of the way your family thinks and lives.

Laundry with Love
Laundry is a simple thing, right? All you do is throw the clothes in the washer and turn it on. Not so fast, girls!

Reducing Stress with Peaceful Living
In these times, most people have more stress than they can handle. While we cannot always control the demands or stresses put upon us by others, there are ways to reduce the stress we put on ourselves.

My Unique Mother
There was a time in my life when I believed that I would grow up and "do better" than my own mother, but after reviewing the accomplishments of her life, I've come to the conclusion that I could not do better.

Someone Loves Her
When we remove those who have to be cared for, we lose more than just that person--we lose the ability to serve others, which is a rare and precious skill. We also lose the blessings of God, for "Inasmuch as you have done it unto the least of these of these, My brethen, you have done it unto Me" (Matthew 25:40).

Making the Best of Things
I've gotten several feedback letters that indicate that people of certain economic levels cannot possibly reach the high calling of homemaking. These girls claim that because their people didn't have a good economic start, and weren't born with an inheritance, or didn't have rich parents, they cannot do anything with their lives. They are waiting for someone to compensate them for all these wrongs, and in the meantime, are wasting precious moments wallowing in self pity.

The Mixing Bowl
There are some virtues in hand mixing batters and doughs in a bowl. There is not as much equipment with parts and pieces lying out on your surface to clean up, put back together, and put away. The family mixing bowl--whether it is a red pottery bowl or a clear green glass bowl--with the wooden spoon is all that is needed.

Letter Writing To Lift the Heart
As you put pen to paper, take a moment to think back through history to the beginning of time when the first letters were written. They are the most ancient form of communication we have, and to write a letter is to keep alive one of the most important practices of all time.
