Daughters: Are You Joyfully Serving?

Posted By on December 12, 2011

What a beautiful season we have been given, as daughters and sisters at home, to serve others through the resources God has given us. Ecclesiastes reminds us of the brevity of each season in chapter three, verse one: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” We are called to redeem the time, fruitfully bringing Christ glory through our service. Whatever the Lord calls us to do—whether it be reading to our siblings or assisting our mother in her household duties—we should joyfully and contentedly do these things to the best of our ability, as unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23).

Christ has given us hands to serve Him with and a body to glorify Him through, thus we are to humbly serve Him in our homes. The Lord continually convicts me as a daughter at home for my need to more joyfully serve my father, mother, and siblings on a daily basis. It can be all too easy to become distracted and lose sight of the brevity of my days and the changing seasons of life. May we each desire to bring the Lord exaltation through our humble obedience and service. Here are ten ways you can serve and bless your family right now—today—in a practical way, and in so doing, bring praise to the name of Jesus Christ.

  1. Joyfully greet your father when he arrives home from work

  2. Provide extra time for your mother by planning and cooking a nutritious, balanced meal for the family

  3. Ask your siblings how you can pray for them right now and make an extra effort to bless them in small ways

  4. Adorn your home with cheery greenery and homemade decorations (see Proverbs 31)

  5. Ask the Lord to fill you with His love (John 16:24) – and then share it with your family members through a warm hug

  6. Assist in keeping your home an orderly castle for your father – dust, mop, and vacuum regularly

  7. Make a favorite dessert for your family tonight

  8. Write down a verse the Lord blessed you with in your personal devotions and share with your brother or sister

  9. Joyfully offer to help with others’ tasks and look around for needs you can meet (Colossians 3:24)

  10. Write words of encouragement and gratitude to your family members—these notes are sure to be treasured for years to come (Proverbs 31:26)

May the Lord“stablish you in every good word and work” (2 Thessalonians 2:17), as you humbly serve the Lord and make His dominion work as your eternal goal.

I just wrote a post about being either selfish or a servant. You are one or the other. LIfe is about serving others as Jesus came to serve. The greatest gift you can give you children is to learn to be a servant instead of selfish! As I have learned to serve, I am much happier! God’s ways are so good.
