From Breezy Brookshire:

Today a friend asked the young ladies she knows if we would be willing to lay down our lives for the cause of Christ. She then later offered these convicting thoughts that are worth our serious reflection:

“You say that you would be willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of living another day in this life for the long-term investment of the cause of Christ.

“Now, say your life will last for sixty more years.
Tonight, tomorrow, and for sixty more years of tomorrows, you have to make a choice.

“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of peace with the world for the long-term investment of speaking against the popularly accepted sins of our day? (i.e. abortion, sodomy, socialism)

“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of popularity with your friends for the long-term investment of speaking against the favoured sins of your circles? (i.e. gossip, embracing immaturity, speaking in dishonouring ways about parents/husbands?)

“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of entertainment for the long-term investment of obtaining knowledge, wisdom and understanding by prayerfully studying God’s Word and attentively seeking to learn from preachers and teachers (including authors)?

“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of consuming worldly and vain media for the long-term investment of collecting media that will build a culture of purposeful godliness?

“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of making yourself comfortable for the long-term investment of serving, teaching, equipping and sustaining others to advance the cause of Christ?

“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of “getting the last word” for the long-term investment of strengthening your relationships with gracious humility?

“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of speaking your mind or being admired for the long-term investment of promoting femininity that is adorned by a meek and quiet spirit?

“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of indulgence for the long-term investment of self-control?

“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of flirty relationships for the long-term investment of pointing your brothers in Christ to purity and noble endeavours?

603909_10151643852016328_4312711_n“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of “hanging out” with the youth for the long-term investment of promoting age-integration and being spurred to maturity by your elders?

“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of gossip for the long-term investment of protecting reputations, covering a multitude of sins with love and promoting a high standard for communication?

“Are you willing to sacrifice the short-term pleasure of following your dreams for the long-term investment of digging into Scripture to understand God’s will for your life?

“If laying down your life for the cause of Christ means sixty years of daily (and prayerfully) struggling, by God’s grace, to die to self in all of the areas outlined above, are you still willing?
