Theology Gals: Girl Wash Your Face, Not So Great

Theology Gals give some critical insight in their review of popular book, “Girl wash your face.”

“The gospel is not in this book, in fact a patently false gospel is in this book”

“This is a book that the bulk of what is present is contrary to what we should be focusing on as Christians. The bulk of what is being taught in this book is self-reliance, it’s the opposite of what we should be doing as believers. And so, the problem is that it is not just, Ir may not be overtly saying, “Hey, read me. I am a book about theology. You might disagree on a few points.” It is, first of all pretending to not be theology but it is chock full of theology. It’s pretending to just be advice but it is full of new thought philosophy which is completely contrary to what we believe as Christians. We’re supposed to be focusing on Philippians 4:8,9 which tells us what to focus on.

” Finally, brethren whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute—if there is any excellence and anything worth of praise—dwell on these things. The things that you have heard and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things and the God of peace will be with you.”

So I think about this book and the very first thing right out of the gate in this verse is, “whatever is true.” There is a lot in this book that is flat out not true. You aren’t in control. A vision board is not going to make your dreams come true. These things are not true. These things are not right. It’s not pure and honestly if people are believing in those things because they have come to the book from the point of view that, “Hey this isn’t teaching me theology so it’s fine,” I think that this just opens the door to being led astray and accepting doctrine which is packaged as ‘not doctrine’ certainly, but it’s still doctrine and so that is what I think makes books like these dangerous.

This is not a book, ladies where you can take the good and leave the bad. The entire premise of this book is flawed.”
