Pro-Gay Theology: Does the Bible Approve of Homosexuality? by Steve Golden

Posted By on April 4, 2013

One of the most pervasive issues of our time has been the movement to embrace homosexual behavior, same-sex “marriage,” and the marred versions of masculinity and femininity that accompany this lifestyle. References sympathetic to the homosexual lifestyle appear now in books, on television, in films, and in video games and graphic novels. Even the popular social networking platform Facebook announced the addition of “gay marriage timeline icons” for users.1 Our children and teens are inundated with a message of “tolerance” and “acceptance” of homosexual behavior, and sadly even some professing Christians are preaching this message.

Scripture makes clear, as I will argue, that engaging in homosexual behavior of any sort is sinful (Genesis 18:20 and 19:5; Leviticus 18:22, 20:13; Romans 1:26–27; 1 Corinthians 6:9–10; 1 Timothy 1:10). But some in the church have taken to reinterpreting key passages on homosexuality or even denying outright that these passages mean what they plainly say. So what exactly does the Bible say about homosexuality? And how do pro-gay Bible scholars try to work around those passages?

I am amazed at how many Christians say that the homosexual behaviour that is recorded in God’s Word is NOT the same as is referred to in this day and age. Another thing that shocks me is how many say that it is not the same because the word homosexual is not used in the Bible!
I feel for any parent trying to bring their children up in the ways of the Word of God; they have a hard road ahead of them. I feel it is our reasonability (as older parents) to prayer for Christian parents brings up young children that God will give them wisdom and strength to bring them up in love and truth of our precious Heavenly Father.

It IS true that homosexuality in the Bible was a chosen activity by those who were simply corrupt in every way, enjoyed hurting others. But now, I do think for some, it is a genetic tendency. What are they to do? I don’t know, God help them; I can only pray and leave them to Him. I DO know gay marriage won’t fix anything. The perfect reference for a good Christian balance on this matter is the YA book “Bright Purple: Color Me Confused” by Melody Carlson, a wonderful Christian writer. Here it is:
