I was shocked, amazed, and moved to tears when I first saw the news on Monday morning that Meriam Ibrahim was walking free from prison.
But my excitement over Meriam’s release was short-lived as she was taken into custody at the airport in Khartoum less than 24 hours after her release. Thankfully, after a brief detainment, Meriam Ibrahim is finally free.
They were temporarily detained for several hours over questions related to their documents, according to Marie Harf, a spokeswoman for the U.S. State Department. She added that Sudan has guaranteed to the U.S. that Meriam and her family are now safe.
All charges against Meriam have been dropped, and she has been reunited with her family.
Meriam’s case is an incredible example of the impact of both prayer and international pressure.
