The True Nature of Tolerance
Lets take a look at the confusing and mistaken ways tolerance is used in our culture today. Well start with the modern notion of "tolerance," then show how returning to the classic understanding of tolerance is the only way to restore any useful meaning to the word.

Scrap Culture, Join It, or Change It?
When Christianity began to lose its cultural dominance to secularism after the War Between the States, it was relegated to an opposite role, countercultural. Christianity became the ignored -- and sometimes persecuted -- minority. By the middle of the 20th century, certain Christians began to investigate what the proper relation really should be between Christianity and culture. This never would have happened had not Christianity lost its cultural leadership, but it is an investigation we cannot afford to dismiss today.

The Heart of the Matter
Christians are often called "believers," while non-Christians are termed "unbelievers." Scripture itself speaks this way: we read that "believers were the more added to the Lord" (Acts 5:14), and that they should not be "unequally yoked together with unbelievers" (2 Cor. 6:14). There is obviously two classes of people distinguished by whether they believe or not. It can rightly be said that what separates Christians from non-Christians is the matter of faith.

"Head" vs. "Heart" Religion
Clearly in the Bible, the term heart, no less in the Old Testament than in the New, refers to the immaterial elements and functions of man in their totality. For many Christians, on the other hand, the heart seems to refer mainly to human emotions (when they say, "The Lord stirred my heart," what they mean is that the Lord stirred their emotions). As used in Scripture, the heart does in fact refer sometimes to emotions (1 Sam. 2:1; Lk. 24:32). It refers to all sorts of other immaterial human phenomena, however. The term heart sometimes refers to human reason (note Pr. 23:7 and Mt. 13:15).

The Revisionists' Tooshies
If there was one truth Dr. Cornelius Van Til pounded home, it was this: there are no "brute" facts, i.e., there are no uninterpreted facts. None. Fallen man is not a pure receptor of neutral data. How man interprets the "facts" is determined by his presuppositions, the biases and inclinations he brings to the knowledge enterprise.

No Lost Books of the Bible
Some people claim there are "lost books" that should have been included in the Bible. Greg says this view doesn't make sense, whether or not you think the Bible has supernatural origins.

Justifying Non-Christian Objections: A Dialogue Between Douglas Wilson & Farrell Till
Whenever we object to something, we always assume some standard or rule that the thing violates. Similarly, when non-Christians object to the Christian faith, they assume some standard that Christianity violates. But can non-Christians justify these standards that they so readily use? In the following interchange, the editor of Credenda/Agenda, Douglas Wilson and Farrell Till, editor of The Skeptical Review , discuss the topic of justifying non-Christian standards of ethics and reason.

Why Good Theology Matters
Many American Christians don't give one hootlet alone twoabout theology. Go no further than your average Christian bookstore to judge this for yourself. What shelves there are warp under a heavy load of "inspirational fiction." Packed spine-tight are the "Christian living" shelves. "Current Concerns" and "Prophecy" are likewise jammed to the rafters. Even the kids area looks robustespecially when compared to "theology."

Apologetics and the Heart
As Christians, our intellectual object is to think God's thoughts after Him. Our aim must not be a false humanistic "originality," but rather, in one sense, submission to the way things are. This is because we believe that the world is the way it is because of the Creator and Sustainer of all things. But if truth is to be found through submission to God's truth, then does it not become a matter of concern if someone claims to have found truth, but is living in open defiance of God's law?

Observance of the Sabbath
The observance of the Sabbath is also most influential in securing national prosperity. The God of Heaven has said, "Them that honor me, I will honor." You will not often find a notorious Sabbath breaker a permanently prosperous man; and a Sabbath-breaking community is never a happy or prosperous community. There is a multitude of unobserved influences which the Sabbath exerts upon the temporal welfare of men.
